The Justice Department says a 35-year-old OpenAI engineer hid an encrypted audio recorder, wrapped in toilet paper, in a TV's USB port in an executive conference room in San Francisco; staff found it Sept. 30. Per the complaint, a chatbot account tied to the engineer's spouse asked how to build a continuous audio recorder. The engineer was arrested Oct. 9 and faces up to 5 years if convicted.
