At Config India on Oct 15, Figma moved code layers into open beta. Code layers puts interactive, code-backed prototypes on the canvas, and you can start from a design frame, a GitHub repo, a website captured with Figma's Chrome extension, or a prompt. Figma says creating and editing within code layers is free on paid plans through Nov 4, 2026, and other agent work still uses AI credits. Figma also launched Specs in open beta for paid plans. Specs is a shared doc on the canvas that holds Markdown context next to embedded frames, FigJam boards and code layers, and you can hand it to a coding agent through Figma's MCP server.

How you’d use it: If you prototype in Figma and hand work to a coding agent, try Specs as the shared context doc on the canvas, then pass it through Figma's MCP server. On a paid plan, creating and editing code layers is free through Nov 4, 2026; other agent work still uses AI credits.
