Linux kernel maintainers drop the "Assisted-by" tag and stop requiring AI tool disclosure

Linux kernel maintainers agreed at the Maintainers Summit to deprecate the "Assisted-by" commit tag and stop requiring contributors to disclose AI tool use; the documentation requiring it is being removed. The tag was dropped, not made optional. Some developers objected, and Linus Torvalds replied: "We're not going to make stupid rules that say 'you can't use tools for X'." Torvalds added that what matters is that people understand what they submit, whatever tools they use.
How you’d use it: Kernel contributors no longer need an Assisted-by line for AI-helped patches.
