MI5 launches an AI Threat Assessment Centre to sort real AI risks from hype

In MI5's annual threat update, Director General Ken McCallum announced the AI Threat Assessment Centre (AITAC), housed in MI5 and drawing on the AI Security Institute, the National Crime Agency and the National Cyber Security Centre. It will produce all-source assessments for government departments, meant to "separate the bluster from the realities," McCallum said; the government, not AITAC, decides the response. McCallum said MI5 has caught terrorists trying to use AI to improve reconnaissance and attack methods, and called AI's potential bioweapons uplift a risk that is "not yet realised" but given the greatest weight.
How you’d use it: UK security teams can expect one official government view of AI threats.
