Perplexity open-sources SPACE, the microVM sandbox behind Perplexity Computer

Perplexity has open-sourced SPACE (Sandboxed Platform for Agentic Code Execution), which it says is the sandbox platform that runs every task in Perplexity Computer. Perplexity says each agent task gets its own Firecracker microVM, with credentials and outbound traffic controlled from outside the VM. Apps use an HTTP API to create Linux sandboxes from templates, run commands, stream their output, and pause, suspend or delete them. It also ships an E2B compatibility wrapper. SPACE is written in Rust and released under Apache-2.0; the docs list version 0.8.0. Perplexity announced the release on X on Oct 15 at 1:03 PM ET; the repo was created Oct 1.
How you’d use it: If you build agents that run code, SPACE is a ready-made way to give each task its own throwaway Linux VM instead of running it on your own machine. The local setup needs an x86_64 Linux host with KVM and runs on Kubernetes (Kind), and the guide says it doesn't run directly on macOS.
