Rivian plans to let its cars run third-party AI agents, TechCrunch reports

Rivian plans to let its cars run AI agents from other companies, TechCrunch reported Oct 15. CEO RJ Scaringe spoke at TechCrunch Disrupt. TechCrunch's summary names Anthropic as an example. It's a plan with no date: Scaringe didn't say when, and Rivian pointed to its “AI & Autonomy Day” in December. Rivian's own assistant already picks between an on-vehicle model and cloud models. Driving stays off-limits: “anything that’s vehicle-level controls are not being handed to an agent,” they said. They added that it takes “a lot of coordination with the labs.”
How you’d use it: Treat this as a plan, not a ship date. Watch Rivian's AI & Autonomy Day in December for what third-party agents they actually enable in the cabin. Driving controls stay off-limits to agents; Rivian's own assistant already picks between on-vehicle and cloud models.
