Science Corporation CEO Max Hodak said at TechCrunch Disrupt that the company implanted its PRIMA retinal chip in its first patient with Stargardt disease, an inherited, currently incurable cause of central vision loss. The patient, implanted in May in a trial at Sydney Eye Hospital, saw a letter in the first rehab session and read a word in the second. Camera glasses feed the 2 mm chip, which gives sharp black-and-white central vision; PRIMA is already sold in Europe for geographic atrophy.
