Upload your land survey to Claude and lay out paddocks and water for your herd

Interactive paddock map from the author's post: survey aerial with one-acre gridlines, red paddock lines, a central well and draggable water stations with walking distances

@MichaelWSpike uploaded a property survey to Claude, had it add one-acre gridlines and help design centralized water for a growing goat herd: a wheel-and-spoke layout with dedicated hoof lanes into each stock tank, and aggressive aggregate on the last 100 to 150 ft and around the tanks to keep hooves worn on sandy soil. Claude then made the page interactive, so water tanks can be moved anywhere and distances recalculate. The author says the plan is far from done and they haven't checked Claude's paddock lines yet.

What you get

An interactive map of your land with paddocks and water points you can drag to compare walking distances.

Tools

Time / cost: Author: still a work in progress

Steps

  1. Use a survey with a scale bar so distances can be checked.
  2. Tell Claude your herd size, soil and how often you move animals.
  3. Ask it to list every assumption about scale and boundaries.
  4. Walk the land and check the lines before you buy fencing or dig.

Copy-ready prompt

Here is my property survey [FILE]. Add a grid where each square is one acre. I keep [NUMBER] [ANIMALS] and want centralized water with walking lanes into each tank. Draft paddock lines and lanes, then build an interactive page where I can drag each water tank and see walking distances recalculate. List every assumption you made about scale and boundaries.

Prompt written by AgentPlays, based on @MichaelWSpike’s post. Check the output yourself and approve before anything is sent or bought.

Watch out: The author says they haven't checked Claude's paddock lines yet. Check scale and boundaries against the real survey and the land before fencing or digging, and keep survey files private.

In their words

I uploaded my survey to claude, had it add gridlines, and help me design centralized water for the goats as the herd grows/forest is thinned … I had claude make the page interactive so i can move water tanks to any point and it'll auto recalculate distances. The grid lines are one acre, the red lines are paddock design(claude generated I haven't paid any attention to those yet)
